    Will converting to PNG improve quality?

    No: it keeps the current quality exactly, but it won’t remove artefacts that are already in the JPG. It prevents further loss when you keep editing.

    Why is the PNG bigger than the JPG?

    PNG stores every pixel losslessly. For photos that means larger files; for screenshots and graphics the difference is smaller.
