How it works

  1. Drop, paste or choose a photo (JPG, PNG, WebP). A small AI model gives a result in seconds; on computers the HD model then refines it.
  2. The subject is detected, then edges like hair and fur are refined at full resolution and colour fringes from the old background are removed.
  3. Download a transparent PNG, or put the subject on white or any colour.

FAQ

Is the download really full resolution?

Yes — the cut-out is computed at your photo’s original size (up to 16.7 megapixels). remove.bg’s free download, for comparison, is capped at 0.25 megapixels.

Are my photos uploaded to a server?

No. Everything runs locally in your browser; the only download is the AI model itself, once.

Why does the first run take longer?

The AI model (~115 MB) is downloaded the first time and stored in your browser. After that it starts in seconds, even offline.

Which browser works best?

Chrome and Edge on a laptop or desktop use your graphics card (WebGPU) and take a few seconds. Other browsers fall back to the CPU and are slower.
